Everything You Need to Start Float Fishing for Luderick
The ReproBaits Luderick Float Fishing Kit gives you a complete, ready-to-fish setup for targeting Blackfish in estuaries, rock platforms, piers, and ocean gutters. No guesswork — just rig up and fish.
Luderick are one of Australia's most rewarding light-tackle species. They're finicky, light-biting, and incredibly satisfying to catch on a float. This kit has everything you need to get started and start catching.
What's in the Kit
- 3 Floats — 3 sizes: 10g (42.5cm), 15.5g (47.5cm), and 22.5g (49cm) to suit different conditions and depths
- 6 Packs of Hooks — 4 packs of Estuary Luderick Hooks (#12, #10, #8, #6) and 2 packs of Ocean Luderick Hooks (#6, #4)
- 30 Rubber Float Stoppers — 5 fobs of 6, for easy depth adjustment
- 3 Float Slide Snaps — with swivel and quick snap connect for fast rigging
Why This Setup Works
The sliding float system lets you dial in bait depth quickly — move the rubber stopper up or down and you're done. These floats are sensitive enough to show the lightest Luderick bite, which is exactly what you need when fish are being finicky.
The YouTube video below walks through the full setup so you can be fishing-ready in minutes.
How to Fish It
Bait up with fresh green weed or cabbage weed — thread a small bundle onto the hook shank and run the point back through. Use just enough split shot to sit the float stem at the waterline. Berley with chopped green weed mixed with sand before you cast, and keep a steady trickle going to hold fish in the area.
The double hook (Newcastle) rig is worth trying — two hooks on the swivel at 50cm and 80cm gives you two chances at a bite and occasional double hook-ups.
Works for More Than Luderick
This same float setup is deadly for Mullet, Garfish, Leatherjackets, Bream, Tarwhine, and Snapper. In freshwater it's a proven method for Rainbow Trout and Redfin Perch. One kit, a lot of species.
