2-Hook Hand-Tied Whiting Fishing Paternoster Rigs – 3 Pack
BAIT IT. CAST IT. FIND THE WHITING.
Good whiting fishing doesn't need complicated tackle.
You need light trace, long-shank hooks that suit natural baits, and a rig that keeps those baits working close to the bottom.
The ReproBaits 2-Hook Whiting Paternoster Rig brings the same practical design as our popular three-hook whiting rig into a shorter, two-hook configuration.
Each rig is hand-tied using 10 lb monofilament trace, fitted with two #4 red long-shank hooks, green oval lumo beads, a top swivel and a bottom sinker snap.
At approximately 60cm long, it's a compact arrangement designed for Victorian anglers fishing under the state's general two-hook marine limit or anyone who prefers a simpler two-hook presentation.
Three complete rigs per pack. Six hooks ready for bait.
Clip on your sinker.
Add some beachworms, pipis or prawn.
And start finding the whiting.
TWO HOOKS. TWO BAITS IN THE WATER.
Whiting spend much of their time moving across sand flats, gutters and channels searching for food.
A two-hook paternoster rig lets you present two natural baits at once, with the sinker attached below the hooks.
The 60cm rig has a straightforward layout:
-
Approximately 20cm from the top swivel to the first hook attachment
-
Approximately 20cm between the two hook attachments
-
Approximately 20cm from the second hook attachment to the bottom sinker snap
It's the same practical approach as our three-hook rig, with one fewer hook and a shorter overall length.
That makes it suitable for Victorian marine fishing under the general two-hook limit, while also offering a convenient option for anglers who prefer fishing with fewer hooks.
#4 RED LONG-SHANK HOOKS
Whiting have relatively small mouths and commonly feed on worms, small crustaceans and shellfish found along sandy bottoms.
That's why each rig is fitted with two size #4 red long-shank hooks.
They're well suited to popular whiting baits, including:
-
Beachworms
-
Bloodworms
-
Tubeworms
-
Pipis
-
Nippers
-
Small strips of prawn
The longer shank provides room to thread worms and narrow baits along the hook. It also offers more shank to grip when removing hooks from a landed fish.
The red finish adds a subtle point of colour beside your bait.
LIGHT 10 LB MONOFILAMENT TRACE
Whiting fishing often rewards a lighter, more natural bait presentation.
Each ReproBaits two-hook paternoster rig is hand-tied using 10 lb monofilament fishing line, the same line strength used in our three-hook version.
This provides a practical balance of strength and presentation when targeting whiting over sandy bottoms, through estuary channels and along coastal gutters.
The shorter 60cm layout also keeps the rig compact and straightforward to handle.
A LITTLE LUMO BESIDE EVERY BAIT
Each hook is paired with a small green oval lumo bead measuring approximately 4mm × 6mm.
The beads provide a subtle visual feature close to the bait that may help attract attention in deeper water, slightly discoloured conditions or during early morning and evening fishing sessions.
The bait still does the real work.
The bead simply adds another small detail to the presentation.
QUICK SINKER CHANGES
At the bottom of the rig is a sinker snap that allows you to attach your preferred compatible fishing sinker.
Fishing a sheltered bay isn't the same as fishing an open beach with a running current.
Use a lighter sinker when conditions allow, or increase the weight when the current, wind or surf makes it necessary.
No need to cut and retie the bottom of your rig every time you want to change sinkers.
A PRACTICAL CHOICE FOR VICTORIAN WHITING FISHING
Victoria offers excellent King George whiting fishing, particularly around Port Phillip Bay, Western Port and other suitable coastal bays.
The ReproBaits two-hook paternoster rig is designed with Victoria's general recreational marine fishing limit of two hooks per line in mind.
Its two-hook configuration makes it a practical option for anglers targeting King George whiting from beaches, jetties and boats in suitable fishing areas.
It's equally useful outside Victoria for anglers who prefer two baits rather than three.
Always check current local fishing regulations and restrictions before fishing.
HOW TO FISH THE RIG
1. Connect your line. Attach the top swivel securely to your main fishing line.
2. Choose your sinker. Clip your preferred compatible sinker onto the bottom sinker snap.
3. Bait both hooks. Thread beachworms, pipis, nippers or prawn onto the #4 red long-shank hooks.
4. Find suitable ground. Look for sandy gutters, channel edges, sand flats and feeding areas beside seagrass beds where fishing is permitted.
5. Let the bait work. Maintain enough contact with your line to detect bites, and move to another patch of water if the fish aren't feeding.
