Trace rigs are set up to get fishing quickly. Clip the top swivel onto your main line. Add whatever hooks you want directly to the snaps. Clip your weight on the bottom and you are ready to bait up and fish.
Three metal standoff arms keep the bait from tangling with the main leader. Since there are three hooks it's possible to use all three hooks the same size or to mix hook sizes. One tactic is to use the smallest hook on the bottom and the largest hook up top. Adding multiple baits to the rig can also increase your chances. Anyone that has ever gone fishing has snagged on bottom and lost their rig. One way to extend the life of this rig is to attach your weight using a lighter loop of monofilament. Tie a loop using about 20 or 30 cm of monofilament lighter than your main line. Tie the two ends using a surgeons knot. Take the loop and put it through the sinler eye.

Slip the sinker through the bottom loop and now you have a short trace coming from the sinker. Clip this monofilament loop with the sinker into the 3 arm bottom fishing rig.
